Drug-trafficking suspects dial 911 to report marijuana
Catching criminals often involves a lot of effort and research, but not this time. Rexburg police confiscated nearly 20 pounds of pot after two alleged drug traffickers who thought authorities were closing in on them called 911.
But officers said until the pair called Friday to report their location and the marijuana, which was worth $16,000, they didn’t know about the drugs.
Capt. Randy Lewis of the Rexburg Police Department says the men were waiting for them and as soon as police showed up, the men put both hands on their heads and leaned against their SUV.
After interviewing both suspects, police said the men honestly thought they were compromised, and that police had set up barricades all over the place to stop them.
Lewis says this is one of the more unusual cases he’s seen. He also says it reminds him of some of the stories he’s seen on TV shows like “America’s Dumbest Criminals.”
Leland Ryan Kaimipono Ayala-Doliente, 21, and Craig Sward Holland, 22, now face felony charges of trafficking marijuana.
