Zombies at Pebble Creek Ski Area
It’s finally happened– zombies are here. Who would have thought they would first start out at a ski area? But don’t worry–The National Guard, skiers and snowboarders at the Pebble Creek Ski Area took care of them all.
Mary Reichman, general manager of the ski area, said events like this just add a little something new to skiing and boarding.
“By this time of year they’re looking for a little more action, a little something different, and these events provide that outlet,” she said. “It’s just a lot of fun. Temperatures are warmer, people can hang on the deck. It’s just beautiful up here.”
So what does it take to make the living dead, dead again? Airsoft guns. But the members of the National Guard in Pocatello worked with the ski area and took all the necessary precautions.
“Once they get up there, we show them how to use it,” said Staff Sgt. Amber Peterson. “We have protective goggles, they have to sign a waiver, both with us and Pebble Creek.”
Peterson said she and a fellow staff sergeant, Trevor Fallows, decided to get out in the community for a fun event.
“We both grew up here in Pocatello, we recruit out of Pocatello, and we really just wanted to come up and be part of the community, and do something fun,” Peterson said. “We have the resources for it, so we might as well use them and let everybody participate with us.”
Skiers and snowboarders figure out what they needed to do, went through the course and made the undead more dead, hand off the airsoft gun and went off like nothing happened.
Reichman said creative events like this helps the avid winter sports folks try something new.
“We would love to have the National Guard participate with us this event again next year, future events, whatever,” Reichman said. “Awesome group of people. We’re glad to be working with them.”
Pebble Creek has several more upcoming events, including their very popular dummy jump. Head to their website to find more events coming up: bit.ly/1FLYqov.
