1 charge dropped against Jefferson County sheriff
One of four charges against Jefferson County Sheriff Blair Olsen has been dropped.
The sheriff went before a judge Monday after a motion to dismiss all charges.
In February, Olsen pleaded not guilty to three charges of use of public money for personal use and not guilty to another charge of misuse of public funds by a public officer.
According to a grand jury indictment, Olsen knowingly used public money for a cell phone for his wife and to pay for a membership to the National Rifle Association.
However, the charge related to the NRA membership, misuse of public funds by a public officer, has been dropped because the statute of limitations has run out.
Despite the charges, Olsen still holds the office, and because he is an elected official, he is not required to take leave.
Once the trial is done, he could be forced to take leave if all three county commissioners decide.
Olsen will be back in court May 11.
