Northwest Indian Youth Conference opens in Ft Hall

About 300 people turned out to the 40th annual Northwest Indian Youth Conference at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel on Monday.

The four-day conference features young people from various tribes across the Northwest. Each year, it’s held on a different reservation.

“It’s an honor to hold it on our reservation because we get to show other tribes what our reservation is like and show them who we are,” said Caycee Dixey, a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe.

“It builds your leadership skills. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people and network,” said William Lucero of the Lummi Tribe in Washington state.

The conference ends Thursday.
