61st Annual Eagle Rock Art Guild Sidewalk Show held this weekend

Artists from around the area came out to the Idaho Falls green belt this weekend for the Eagle Rock Art Guild sidewalk show.

Every piece of art has a story.
Torie Cutler of Rusty Apple Art said, “It was a happy accident”

Another artist, Kathy Lish said, “Depending on your level of imagination, we’ve found as many as 7 faces. So I call the painting ‘The Chairman and His Board of Directors.”

“The story behind the boat is this gal from Astoria, Oregon got a hold of me online and asked me if i could draw her boyfriend,” said Crystal Dial of Crystalized Designs.

At the Eagle Rock Art Guild sidewalk show there is something for everyone.
Watercolors, acrylics, pressed flowers, puppeteers, pottery, jewlery made out of dinosaur bone, and even wooden spoons.

Austin Anderson of Spoonwright said, “Over the years he was saving all the scraps and we were trying to figure out what to do with them. Last year we started making wooden spoons and selling them at the local farmer’s market. So now thats what we do full time, making wooden spoons.”

Artists say their work is a way even imperfections can become beautiful.

“My mom she’s the painter, I’m the collager. She was working on this big watercolor piece, and my sweet nephew came over and drew red marker all over it. She was really in tears and said, ‘I’m just going to throw it away’ and I said, ‘no, no, no let me just mess with it.’ So I cut it up and ripped it up, took off all the scribbled pieces, and it just worked,” Cutler said.

The Eagle Rock Art Guild is the oldest art group in the state of Idaho.
This was the 61st side walk show.
It’s a way for artists to come together and share the tricks of their trade.

Donna Avery, member of Eagle Rock Art Guild said, “Just the comradery with the other artists, and you make really good friends. We give each other tips on techniques on painting and stuff like that.”

Inspiration can stem from simplicity.
“I just saw it, and it said, ‘paint me'” said Lish.

The Eagle Rock Guild has over 60 members right now.
