District 93 board calls special meeting for overcrowding Thursday

The District 93 Board of Trustees is looking once again to find a solution to overcrowding in the district.

With previous bonds for a new high school failing, the district is hosting a meeting tonight to look at other options.

A newly formed “District 93 Solutions Group” will be presenting a proposal at the meeting, trustee Jeff Bird will be presenting the proposals on behalf of the group.

The proposals the group is looking at include annexing Sandcreek Middle School and adding another middle school to filter into Hillcrest High School or the possibility of placing ninth graders with middle schoolers while also adding an additional middle school.

“I know that it’s a hot topic in the community, but where the ninth graders go to school makes a big difference to a lot of people,” said Jeff Bird, trustee for the Bonneville Joint District 93 school board.

The school board is hoping that this meeting serves as away to provide solutions for a topic that’s been heavily debated on how to solve the overcrowding issue, and ultimately direct administration to what needs to be done for the upcoming November election.

“I think what they [the administration] need from us as a school board is where they need to go now- I think tonight is going to be the night where we’re going to have these issues brought up and now we’re going to be able to go to the district and the administration and say this as a school board, this is how we feel we need to move forward,” said Brian McBride, school board chairman.

If the Board of Trustees decides to run another bond, they have until September 14th to file paperwork in order for it to appear on the November ballot.

The meeting tonight will be held at the District Boardroom (3497 N Ammon Rd) at 7:30 P.M.
