Iconic Chubbuck restaurant to be demolished
An 89-year-old Chubbuck icon will soon be biting the dust.
The Green T Bar and Grill on Yellowstone Avenue is set to be demolished in October to make way for three new restaurants.
“I’ve always wondered when the day would come that I would sell it,” said owner Rick Hillman, whose family has owned the Green T for the past 75 years.
“Honestly, I think it’s a sad day for Pocatello,” said Rick Hillman’s son, Cory, who manages the restaurant.
Since it opened in 1926, the Green T has undergone many changes, including its location. Rick Hillman said it was originally located near the stoplights at the Yellowstone Avenue/Pole Line Road intersection.
“In the 80s, it was pretty Western. That’s what people wanted, and then, came disco, the Bee Gees,” said Rick Hillman.
Even legends like Willie Nelson and Alan Jackson once performed there.
Friday and Saturday, the Hillman family will be auctioning Green T memorabilia including cooking equipment, chairs and bar tops.
