Police chief says Angie Dodge murder investigation continues
Idaho Falls Police Chief Mark McBride says his department’s investigation in the 1996 murder of Angie Dodge is not over.
McBride said, “it will never be considered a closed case until after we have identified and brought all involved to justice.”
Christopher Tapp was convicted of murder in 1998. He has since filed three appeals claiming his confession to the crime was coerced by investigators. Two of the appeal cases upheld his conviction and one was dismissed by the court. Another appeal is currently pending.
At the request of Prosecutor Daniel Clark, Bonneville County is funding an outside investigation of the case.
McBride said Tapp admitted to investigators he was involved in the crime during a 2006 prison interview.
However, based on DNA evidence located at the crime scene 19 years ago, he said police know there is at least one additional unidentified suspect.
McBride said Idaho Falls detectives have followed up on multiple leads and potential suspects using new technologies and utilizing multiple outside crime scene and homicide experts.
In a statement Friday, McBride said police would continue to employ those tactics, follow-up on leads and dedicate time and resources until all involved are brought to justice.
