Conservation officers seek poachers near Dubois

Idaho Fish and Game Department conservation officers are investigating the illegal shooting and wasting of four elk. The bodies were found about 3 miles south of Indian Creek Butte, which is west of Dubois and within a mile of Medicine Lodge Road.

Two cows and a calf were left in a field and another cow was left in the sagebrush approximately 200 yards away. Investigators said the three in the field were likely shot near Christmas day and the others shot earlier in the week. There was no elk hunt season underway in that zone.

Senior Conservation Officer Tim Klucken said the Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) Hotline is offering an enhanced reward for information about the incident because of its especially egregious nature. Because females were poached, he said not only were those animals lost, but also their potential future offspring.

Anyone with information may contact the CAP Hotline and remain anonymous. The number is 1-800-632-5999.
