Fertility center accepting patients in Idaho Falls

One in eight couples face the struggle of infertility, and it’s often a taboo. A The Idaho Fertility Center is picking up speed in Idaho Falls and they’re working to get couples the help they need to bring children into the world.

Emily and Luke Hawkins have been trying to grow their family for the past two years.Emily has three step sons with luke, but like most couples…they want one of their own.

“I’ve had children before so that’s why this was so frustrating,” said Luke Hawkins.

After seeing the minus sign on pregnancy tests time after time, the Hawkins started to look into other options.

“We were told that we were going to need a donor,”said Hawkins.

Then they discovered in vitro fertilization, until recently, the Hawkins traveled down to Utah to get the procedure done at the Utah Fertility Center. They no longer have to make the trek as the Idaho Fertility Center is now up and running in Idaho Falls.

“It’s a really big community, and even though it’s kind of off the radar there’s really a lot of young couples that struggle with infertility,” said Deirdre Conway, reproductive endocrinologist with the Idaho Fertility Center.

Dr.Conway shares her time between Utah and Idaho, but she’s excited for the future of helping couples trying to bring in a bundle of joy to the world.
“I’ve been seeing patients here for about six months and it has grown so fast and it’s been so great,” said Conway.

The practice is growing but the process is not all cut and dry. The Hawkins have gone through IVF once before and the results weren’t what they expected.

“I wasn’t really prepared for it not to work,” said Luke Hawkins.

The first time they were at the Utah Fertility Center, they’re hoping round two will bring better news since they’re closer to home.Although it’s been a challenge for them to bring another Hawkins into the world the pair is optimistic.

“We just have hope again because after the first one it was kind of discouraging,” said Emily Hawkins.
