What keeps people coming back to farmers market
A Saturday just isn’t part of the weekend without a good farmer’s market.Since May, every Saturday morning at the Portneuf Valley Farmer’s Market, people have been coming to see what the freshest spice of life is – in all its variety.
Shoppers say they find a good deal hereā¦even for Grandpa’s garden.
“Well, we’re searching for flowers. We came by, we were driving past and we saw the cars so we’re buying petunias and others for Grandpa’s garden,” said Nick Zollinger, shopper.
He says he buys from the farmer’s market because of the best prices and the tasty of line up of things.
“Raspberries, local raspberries. So we had those sold out pretty quick. And a lot of people like the fresh baked breads,” said Wendy Swore, President of the Portneuf Valley Farmer’s Market.
According to Cuesa.org, people have found that attending a farmer’s market can bring you closer to promoting humane treatment of animals. For example, meats, cheeses and eggs at the market are from animals that have been raised without hormones or antibiotics. And also, by buying from a farmer’s market, you’re also supporting some of the local family farmers.
“If you haven’t heard of the farmer’s market, I would say come early. It starts at 9am. And a lot of things sell out by about 10:30. So, like the eggs and some of the candy things. They’ll sell out pretty quick,” said Swore.
“It gives you the best thing. It gives you something to do. And when you get here, you’ll find something you’ll fall in love with. I know that,” said Zollinger.
Farmer’s market will be open every Saturday until October from 9a.m. to 1p.m.
