Bonn. Sheriff’s Office investigating suspicious parking lot incident

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office says they’re investigating a report about a suspicious van in Ammon, Thursday evening.

Sgt. Bryan Lovell says, ” Yesterday evening Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputies took a report from a female adult advising of suspicious activity at the Albertsons in Ammon. The report was that 2 Hispanic males were in their van near the reporting party for a moment, opened their door, and then quickly left. The reporting party felt this activity was directed at her and her daughter and there was the possibility they were there to take her daughter. At no time did the suspects get out of their vehicle or approach the reporting party, but she felt it necessary to report the incident to Law Enforcement as a precaution.”

The mother who called police says on her social media page “We were walking out of Albertsons in Ammon and Gracie, thankfully, was hanging onto the cart. I saw a really old tan Chrysler minivan, with two Hisp anic males inside, approaching us very slowly. When they got directly in front of us, blocking us, I heard the driver yell in plain English, “Go, go, go!” About the same time, the sliding door came open and it looked as if the passenger was about to jump out. When I quickly realized what was happening, I grabbed Gracie and said, “Hang on tight!” I think they realized I was alert and aware of what was about to happen so they hurried up and shut the door and took off.”

When Local News 8/KIDK Eyewitness news called the Sheriff’s office early Thursday morning, they said the incident may be attributed to the individuals playing the video game Pokemon Go!

Sgt. Lovell says, “At this time we do not have any suspect information and cannot determine if they were attempting any criminal act or engaged in lawful activity. We also have had no recent reports or information on any other events where an actual attempted abduction or kidnapping has occurred. As always we encourage citizens to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity when it happens so we can investigate accordingly.”
