ISU student charged with aggravated assault
An Idaho State University student is being held on multiple charges after investigation of a disturbance on the ISU campus Thursday morning.
Pocatello Police were called by a female victim to an apartment on the ISU campus at 1001 Sam Nixon Drive at around 6 a.m. She told police she had been assaulted.
Police questioned Ahmad Aldawish, 24, and arrested him on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill. Police obtained a search warrant for Aldawish’s home. He was subsequently charged with misdemeanor battery, false imprisonment, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana.
According to a statement from ISU, Aldawish was taken into custody immediately. The female victim was immediately provided resources, including counseling at the scene.
The university said that due to federal privacy laws it cannot talk about any actions, pending or contemplated, against a specific student who has been taken into custody, according to the statement.
The statement also said, “The troubling nature of this incident is not reflective of ISU’s values. As an institution, we work hard to create and maintain an environment that is safe for all of our students. We take claims of misconduct and criminal misbehavior very seriously and fully investigate all reported allegations.”
Aldawish was arraigned on $15,000 bond and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing August 2 on the felony charge.
He was ordered to appear for a pretrial conference on the misdemeanor charges August 18.
