Basketball tournament promotes carbon monoxide awareness

It was the last day of the Bill Parrish Memorial 3 on 3 basketball tournament Saturday. Which was created to promote carbon monoxide poisoning awareness in your home.

The basketball tournament started Friday in the parking lot of Holt Arena in Pocatello.

Organizer of the event and sister to Bill Parrish, Carri Parrish Curtis, wants to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning from happening to other families. She handed out free carbon monoxide alarms with the Pocatello Fire Department at the basketball tournament.

“The idea of the basketball tournament was created three years ago right after Bill, Ross, Keagan and Liam Parrish after passing away from CO poisoning in their home. They didn’t have any detectors in their home. So we wanted to spread awareness in the community and throughout southeastern Idaho on how to prevent that,” said Curtis.

If you were unable to attend the event Friday and Saturday and would like a free carbon monoxide alarm, visit cokills.org. The website also teaches the community to be aware of the symptoms when carbon monoxide is present in your home.
