Register for ‘Free Conflict Resolution Day’

Grand Teton Mediation Association is gearing up for a free mediation day. Community members met Saturday to practice for many different types of conflicts they may come across.

“Mediation isn’t something that’s not really often understood or appreciated, but it can be a huge help for the people that are struggling with a conflict, or dispute, or a concern, and they want to stay out of court and out of litigation,” said president of Henscheid Mediation and Communication, LLC,
Henry Henscheid.

This is a great resource if you don’t want to go the legal route, or if you just want someone completely unbiased to weigh in.

“A mediator is not allowed to take sides, or offer opinions, or offer suggestions. This provides them an opportunity to address the concerns on their terms with an agreement they can both live with. And in many cases, it’s much less expensive, much quicker, I won’t necessarily say easier because it is a tough process,” said Henscheid.

Example conflicts that may need mediation:

Pet issues
Workplaces disputes
Loans
Property
Contract disputes
Service disputes
Landlord/Tenant
Neighborhood Association
Business disputes
Parent/Teen disagreements
Car repair issues
Collections

Even though they are not legal mediators, they have all had training and certification in how to do act effectively.

“Many of them are certified. Many of those people have more than 10, 15, sometimes close to 20 years of experience in dealing with these conflict issues. The people that we’re going to be having in our Conflict Resolution Day are doing this at no cost to the community. This is a volunteer effort by many skilled, very competent and very well-trained mediators,” said Henscheid.

Free Conflict Resolution day is July 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2275 W. Broadway Suite G., Idaho Falls. Register here.
