I.F. Fire Department helping out in central Idaho

An off-road mini-ambulance from the Idaho Falls Fire Department is now in Idaho City helping firefighters in central Idaho.

Teh special ambulance arrived Sunday. Idaho Falls Fire Department Paramedic Connor Cook and EMT Jess Morgan will staff it for about two weeks.

The U.S Forest Service requested Idaho Falls Fire to lend a hand. They are going to help injured firefighters as firefighters try to get the Pioneer Fire under control.

“And we happen to have here in Idaho Falls one of the best resources for that. It doesn’t impact our regular ambulances. We still have our full fleet and full ambulances here, but we our mini-ambulance that is what we call UTV,” Idaho Falls Fire Chief Dave Hanneman said.

The mini-ambulance can do the same things a regular-sized ambulance can. But with its four-wheel drive and small size, it can be driven on rocky, bumpy, and steep roads like they see around Idaho City.
