Family and friends of Utah man in Venezuelan jail hold rally at state capitol
Hundreds rallied at the Utah State Capitol this weekend in honor of a former Pocatello man being held in a Venezuelan jail.
Joshua Holt and his wife, Thamy, have been held since early June and are accused of being American spies and terrorists.
Over the weekend, family and friends of Josh held a rally at the state capitol to try and bring attention to Josh’s situation. His family also hoped to gain some political help from the rally.
At the rally, people held signs saying things like “Free Josh” or “Bring Josh Home.” Many also shared favorite stories and memories of Josh.
Josh’s mom, Laurie Holt, said her son isn’t doing all that well. She said he’s struggling both mentally and physically. She said she doesn’t think he’s getting proper medical care and so his family is very worried.
Laurie said Josh’s wife, Thamy, is also struggling. She said they’ve been told some of the women Thamy is being held in prison with are mean to her.
Family and friends hoped the rally would bring awareness to more people about what is happening with Josh, and hopefully, get more help to bring him home.
Family and friends have started some social media pages for people to share and help Josh. There is also a Go Fund Me account set up to help the family with expenses, such as the lawyer fees.
