Firefighters make progress on Tie Canyon & Granite Creek fires

The Tie Canyon fire, burning west of Victor, Idaho was estimated at 1,031 acres Wednesday morning. It is now 60 percent contained. A total of 449 firefighters are involved in the effort, including 12 hand crews, five helicopters and 14 engines.

Strong southeast winds began fanning the fire early Wednesday and were expected to increase throughout the day. On the southern flank of the fire, winds were expected to push the fire back into itself, reducing the potential for fire growth. It could test containment lines along the northern flank.

Three of the Tie Fire helicopters made some runs over the Granite Creek fire, which started during grain harvest on private land Tuesday afternoon. Located in Antelope Flat, near the Snake River, the fire is estimated at 47 acres and is now about 80 percent contained.

Full containment was expected at around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

There will be a public meeting Thursday, September 1 at 7 p.m. at the Victor Elementary School, 43 East Center Street.

The Incident Command Team will provide an update on activity and further address the emergency evacuation notice and area fire closures in effect for the Tie Fire.
