Local woman in new movie with Steven Seagal

A local woman from Rigby is in a new movie with Steven Seagal. The movie is called “The Perfect Weapon” and is in theaters on Friday.

“I sort of got the breakdown of the character, like ‘we’re looking for someone who kind of looks like this and behaves like this.’ And they sort of gave you a little character description. And they were actually looking for a woman who was, like 35 to 45 — and I typically play in the 20 to 30 range. So it was a little old for me and I just recorded myself and said, ‘You know, I may be a little younger than you’re looking for, but the role sounds really interesting.’ They called me a few hours later and said, ‘We love you and we’d like to give you the part.'” said actress Kimberly Sadovich.

Sadovich went to Rigby High and studied acting at BYU-Idaho. After teaching English in Japan and going to graduate school at Oxford, she is now in California developing her acting career.

“It’s amazing. Acting — you kind of start low and every job you get hopes you kind of pushes you to another level. This is something I feel really proud of, you know, just being able to say, ‘I was in this film with these people that a lot of people know!’ Because, obviously I’ve been working a lot here but it’s a lot of smaller projects and that kind of thing — ’cause I’ve only been working here for a year and a half. So it’s really nice to sort of feel like I’ve been pushed up to the next level,” said Sadovich.

The action, sci-fi movie takes place in the future with a powerful dictator controlling the state. Sadovich plays the woman who’s the face of telling people to trust in the state and follow the rules.

“It was a lot of fun because I got to go on a sound-stage and shoot in front of a green screen, which was something I hadn’t done before — it was a totally new experience just to be alone in a room.” said Sadovich.

For her part, Sadovich filmed it all in one day: five hours of acting her lines, by herself and a green screen.

“When you’re acting with someone, you have someone to play off of. So you get a little bit of their emotions and you kind of give them a little bit of your emotions. It’s a much more feedback loop. Whereas here, they just stuck a camera directly in front of my face and I had to look into the camera — which is like a golden rule that you never break in acting, so it felt very awkward,” said Sadovich.

Steven Seagal is the lead actor in “The Perfect Weapon,” so of course I had to ask Sadovich if she got to meet him.

“You know, I didn’t! It was such a shame, because all my stuff was green screen. So I didn’t actually. I got to meet a few of the other cast members. But I didn’t get to work with Steven directly, which is such a shame. I have a lot of members of my family that are huge fans of him, so that was the first thing they were all asking me,” said Sadovich.

Sadovich is excited to see where this role may take her.

We don’t know when “The Perfect Weapon” will be playing in our area — but the movie does premiere this Friday.
