Original Story: Police received reports of a bomb threat Friday morning from the Engineering Research Office Building (EROB).

Fremont street is shut down from the entrance to the Willow Creek buildings to University Boulevard while the Idaho Falls Police Bomb Squad continues to investigate a vehicle stopped on the road and the surrounding area.

According to the Idaho Falls Police Chief, Mark McBride, they received reports of a man with bomb in his car just before 9:00 Friday morning.

Police took the 55-year-old man into custody after they stopped him on Fremont Street. They are still investigating the threat. A bomb-sniffing dog is being brought in to check the car.

“We’re just taking precautions to make sure there are no explosives, “said McBride.

McBride said the man in custody is not an employee of the facility.

The EROB building was never evacuated, but the road to the building was closed.

“The nice thing is is we work very close with INL in doing drills and preps for these types of events and that all just came together today,” Captain Royce Clements with the Idaho Falls Police Department said. “We were able to control what we needed to control, our communications were good so we didn’t have any issues at all.”

Idaho Falls Police don’t believe their is any danger to anyone outside of the closed area. More updates will be given as information becomes available.
