Rep. Pelosi on internet privacy: “You should be very very scared.”
Privacy advocates, consumer groups and the tech community are outraged with republicans for repealing internet privacy protections.
The Obama-era rules were already approved by the FCC, but haven’t gone into effect.
They would require internet service providers to get your permission before collecting and sharing your data.
That would include your browser history, data from your apps, and geo-location.
House minority leader Nancy Pelosi warns people that they should be afraid of what could be ahead, “Stunning. The FCC internet privacy. You should be very, very scared each and every one of you, very, very scared. The Republicans voted to allow internet service providers to sell your most intimate, most intimate personal information without your knowledge or your consent. They’re doing everything they can to keep President Trump’s tax returns private. And they’re doing everything they can to sell your most personal information.”
Some frustrated internet users have even gone so far as to launch a crowdfunding page to buy up internet data belonging to members of congress.
The resolution now goes to President Trump’s desk.
While many are calling on the president to veto the measure, the White House said Tuesday it “strongly supports” the repeal.
