“Hope Rides” gives $20,000 to Portneuf Health Trust

Despite the snowfall on Wednesday afternoon, the cold weather didn’t stop warming hearts happening at the Portneuf Health Trust building, but it was in the form of a giant, pink $20,000 check.

The non-profit, Hope Rides Inc., presented the check after raising that money this past year through the Pink Ribbon Tour, along with several sponsors, the Century High School football team, and the Rodeo Queen Association.

Hope Rides Executive Director Victoria Byrd said this money will go toward providing mammograms for people in the community who cannot afford to pay for that service on their own.

“To be able to give back to people who I know need it – I just don’t even have adequate words to describe how much it means to me,” Byrd stated, adding how much she appreciates the community’s support.

She said mammograms cost roughly 150 each, and this money should help pay for at least one hundred.

Portneuf Cancer Center clinical oncology social worker Rob Dye said he sees patients who struggle financially walk through the door all the time.

“This isn’t something that happens rarely once in a while, we’re talking about a few times each week where we’re handing out gas cards,” Dye said. “It’s real and it’s powerful.”

Byrd said people can go register now for next year’s Pink Ribbon Tour at: www.pinkribbontour.org.

The event will be held on October 7, 2017.
