Sugar Salem bond issue defeated

Patrons of the Sugar-Salem School District in Madison and Fremont Counties have rejected a $5,590,000 general obligation bond issue. Superintendent Alan Dunn said the bond was proposed to pay for an addition to Sugar-Salem Junior High School and to help with other maintenance issues. By a vote of 395 to 283, the bond received a 58 percent majority. It needed a super majority of 66 percent to pass. Voters approved a $200,000 two-year supplemental levy. The vote on the supplemental levy was 424 to 257, a 60 percent majority. A simple majority was needed.
