Idaho Falls announces new chief of police

UPDATE 7/10/17: Chief Bryce Johnson will be starting the week of August 14.

The confirmation vote has been scheduled for the City Council meeting on Thursday.

ORIGINAL 6/30/17:

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper appointed Chief Bryce Johnson of Juneau, Alaska as Idaho Falls Police Department’s new Chief of Police.

Chief Johnson will be replacing Chief Mark McBride who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Chief Johnson has been the Chief of the Juneau Police Department since June 2013 and before that spent 21 years moving through the ranks within the Salt Lake City Police Department as Watch Command, Tactical Commander and Assistant Bureau Commander.

Chief Johnson also served for eight years in the United States Naval Reserve as an intelligence analyst and was an adjunct professor, teaching concurrent enrollment Criminal Justice classes for Salt Lake Community College and the Salt Lake School District.

Chief Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah and a Masters of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University.

The city says the confirmation vote has been scheduled for the City Council meeting on July 13.
