Rexburg man loses finger in accidental shooting

A Rexburg man was hospitalized at around 12:20 a.m. Friday after he shot off his finger with a handgun. Rexburg Police were called to Madison Memorial Hospital to investigate. Police said the 49-year-old man was cleaning his 44 magnum, semi-automatic handgun. He did not think the gun was loaded, put in a magazine, and pulled the trigger. A bullet blasted his middle finger. The man was not identified. Police described the incident as an accidental discharge. No charges were filed, but the man was hospitalized for treatment.
