Blackfoot to take down two landmarks
The city of Blackfoot is preparing to take down two landmarks.
They are planning take down their two water towers. The towers have not been used since the early 1990s. The city says it is too expensive to maintain the towers. The money saved from no longer maintaining them will help lower the costs on utility bills. The city is also worried about safety concerns surrounding the towers.
“We have some concerns about safety,” Paul Loomis, Blackfoot mayor, said. “We either have to address the safety by doing routine maintenance, which is quite expensive. or taking them down.”
The city is opening the bids for companies to take down the water towers on August 14. They hope to have them down sometime this fall.
