Prosecutors: Idaho man acted in self-defense in shooting
Authorities in south-central Idaho say a man who shot and killed another man acted in self-defense and will not face homicide charges.
But the Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office tells The Times-News in a statement Friday that 45-year-old Billy Duane Johnson is still being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities say 38-year-old William Newton Scott in May went to Johnson’s home with another adult male and a teenage male to confront Johnson over a dispute that authorities haven’t specified.
Authorities say Scott attacked Johnson, who shot Scott in the chest during a short struggle. Scott died at the scene.
Johnson late last month pleaded not guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
