Rexburg Police report assault on BYU-I campus didn’t happen

UPDATE:

A student at BYU-Idaho may be charged with filing a false police report.

On August 13 at 1:00 a.m., police responded to a call on the roadway by the temple.

A young woman said two men had grabbed her, but she managed to run away.

Immediately, the report went viral on campus with students and concerned parents, but police interviewed her and Captain Randy Lewis said she made it all up; there was no assault.

Now the female may face charges.

The Rexburg Police Department is actively investigating an assault on the south border of campus.

According to an alert sent to students by the university, a student was assaulted early Sunday morning. The alert did not say what sort of assault took place, nor did it provide the condition of the student.

The Rexburg Police Department is investigating the case.

No other information has been released.
