Fire near Menan Butte is contained

The Bureau of Land Management used 5 engines and 2 dozers to quickly contain a wild fire north of Menan Butte Sunday. The 50-acre fire burned grass and brush on Bureau of Land Management ground near Rexburg. The fire was 100 percent contained at 10 p.m. Sunday. There were no evacuations. The cause of the fire was officially undetermined. However, BLM officials advised that shooting can spark wildfires and offered additional tips: ● Check weather conditions. Hot + Dry + Wind = Quick Spreading Wildfires ● Choose a shooting area that is clear of dry grass, vegetation and rocks. ● Discharging a firearm using incendiary, steel core or tracer ammunition is prohibited on BLM lands from May 10 to Oct. 20. ● Burning, igniting or causing explosive material to burn, including exploding targets is prohibited on BLM lands from May 10 to Oct. 20. ● Always bring water, a fire extinguisher, and a shovel.
