Crapo honors SMC Project staff

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo has named the Idaho National Laboratory’s Specific Manufacturing Capability (SMC) project as the latest recipient of his “Spirit of Idaho Award.” The project has manufactured over a million components for the U.S. Army’s Abrams main battle tank. Crapo said SMC employees also worked off-hours to assist the veterans community and give back to military members for their service to Idaho and the nation. “Many of our employees have a tie to the armed forces in some way, either having served themselves or having friends or family in the military,” said SMC Defense Systems Director Jake Fryer. “This has provided the inspiration for a number of community projects during the year.” In the past year, SMC employees raised almost $8,000 for soldiers’ families and for those living in the State Veterans Home. Crapo presented the award to SMC staff on Monday.
