ON Semiconductor Pocatello to use grant to train, retrain 79 employees
ON Semiconductor will use a Workforce Development Training Fund grant of $335,958 to assist with the creation and training of five permanent full-time positions and for retraining and retaining 79 employees at its Pocatello facility.
The new line maintenance technician positions will pay an average hourly rate of $23 plus employer-assisted medical benefits upon completion of training.
The 79 positions to be retrained include line maintenance technicians, facilities technicians, facilities engineers and process engineers.
ON Semiconductor manufactures semiconductor components for electronic systems and products. The company’s products help engineers solve their unique design challenges in automotive, communications, computing, consumer, industrial, medical, aerospace and defense applications, according to the company.
The Idaho Workforce Development Training Fund was started in 1996 and is administered by the Idaho Department of Labor. Grant funds are used to reimburse businesses for the cost of training new workers or retraining existing workers with skills necessary for specific economic opportunities and industrial expansion initiatives.
Eligible businesses must produce a product or service sold outside the region, and the jobs must pay at least $12 an hour and include employer-assisted health insurance. The fund is financed by a 3 percent set-aside of the unemployment insurance taxes paid by businesses each year.
