Wyoming officials: Off-duty warden kills charging grizzly
Wyoming wildlife officials say an off-duty game warden has shot and killed a grizzly bear that charged him.
The confrontation happened Wednesday northwest of Cody.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department said Friday warden Chris Queen used his cell phone to immediately report the shooting. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and Park County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
Investigators returned to the area where the shooting occurred.
Game and Fish Department officials say they are monitoring three cubs that were with the adult female bear.
Grizzly bears in the Yellowstone ecosystem were federally protected under the Endangered Species Act until their removal from the threatened species list last summer.
