Idaho Democratic Gubernatorial candidate visits Pocatello
Idaho Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Paulette Jordan stopped in Pocatello tonight for a meet and greet. Jordan is the only female in the governor race so far. A room full of people at The College Market in Pocatello eagerly waited for Jordan. Many said they agreed with her on a lot of topics and were interested in what she had to say. “I’m really excited about the fact that she is wanting to promote renewable energy for the state,” Tim Norton, a Paulette Jordan supporter, said. “Because I think we have a lot of potential that would bring us into the future quite well.” Jordan took a variety of questions from the crowd, including some about education. She says she wants to invest more in schools. “Overall, what I’d like to see is supporting and providing access and services to our early childhood youth 0 to 5,” Paulette Jordan, democratic Idaho Gubernatorial candidate, said. “If we really, truly believe in a healthy economy, we want to set our future up right and have a successful life as they get into their adult age.” She also touched on improving Idaho’s economy. “While I’ve read reports about our state doing well, business-wise one of the challenges I see as well, look at how the people are living,” Jordan said. “Because I’m in these communities and I know everybody in this state and we’re not well off , we’re barely skirting by, a lot of the people I know are working more than two minimum wage jobs just to barely make ends meet and they’re struggling.” Jordan also said one of her first jobs in office if elected will be expanding Medicaid. “As a government employee, I have no right to accept any kind of medical assistance from the state that’s a tax-payer funded assistance if no one else can receive it or even if just one person in the state could not receive it,” she said. If you want to hear more about what’s going on in the Idaho legislature, Senator Mark Nye and Representative Elaine Smith will hold a town hall meeting this Saturday at the Pocatello City Hall at 10 am.
