Jordan enters democratic primary for governor

On Wednesday morning, Representative Paulette Jordan officially announced she will step-down from her District 5 legislative seat to focus full-time on her campaign for Idaho governor.

In a statement released just before four o’clock Wednesday morning, she said, “My priority is my constituents and the people of Idaho. I cannot fairly serve my constituents and run for governor, therefore I am stepping down from my legislative seat. This is necessary to win the Democratic primary and to move toward victory in November.”

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter will now have to appoint a Democrat to take-over the rest of her term which ends in November.

Since shew as first elected in 2014, Jordan served on several committees representing the Coeur d’Alene region in the Idaho House of Representatives, including: Environment, Energy and Technology; Resources and Conservation; and State Affairs.

Jordan announced her run for governor on December 7, and will face-off against Democrat A.J. Balukoff during the March 23 primary election.

The election to decide Idaho’s next governor takes place this November.
