Teton Valley group works towards aquatic center

UPDATE: 2-8-18 The Driggs City Council has approved participation in a contract to study the possibilities of a new aquatic center in Teton Valley.

The city will join a team led by VCBO Architects to perform a feasibility study. The $30,000 cost will be split between the city and Teton Valley Aquatics.

The city’s portion of the cost will be allocated from local sales tax revenue.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Teton Valley Aquatics (TVA) is asking the Driggs City Council to approve a feasibility study for an indoor/outdoor aquatic and recreation facility.

During the first quarter of 2018, the group wants to determine the specific build and maintenance costs of initial projects.

The facility could range in scope from a lap pool only to a 25,000 square foot indoor-outdoor facility. But, the TVA said it would not building what the community could not afford to maintain.

The group began in May of 2016.

In December 2016 and January 2017, the organization completed a community survey. It said it realized over 1,000 completed surveys representing over 3,400 residents of Teton Valley.

TVA hopes to open an aquatic center in Driggs by the end of 2021 or earlier.
