Critically acclaimed documentary educates parents on screen addictions

The Romance Theater in Rexburg will have a one day showing of the critically acclaimed documentary “Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age.”

According to the “Screenagers” website, doctor and filmaker, Delaney Ruston decided to make the documentary when she found herself struggling with her two kids about screen time.

The movie shows stories of messy struggles over social media, video games, internet addiction and academics. Two teenagers are featured in the film. Hannah, a 14-year-old girl who is a victim of cyberbullying and tried to hide her social media use from her mom, and Andrew, whose love of video games turned into an addiction making the straight A student flunk out of college.

Throughout Hannah and Andrew’s stories, are insights from scientists who give evidence on the real changed in the brain when kids are on screens.

“Screenagers” will help bring parents, educators and the community to start a conversation about how screen time impacts their lives and what they can do about it.

Due to the nature of the movie, parents are encouraged to bring their children who are 10 years or older to the show.

There will be three showings on Monday, February 19. They will be at 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

This is a free screening, but tickets are required.
