ISP cleared in shooting investigation
The Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office says Idaho State Police detectives were justified in firing their weapons during an arrest in Pocatello March 27, 2017.
On that date, ISP detectives attempted to arrest Rocco Chacon Jr., 24, of Pocatello at the intersection of Golden Gate and Olympus in Pocatello. Chacon was driving a white Honda passenger car. He was wanted on two outstanding felony warrants.
Detectives approached the car on foot. Chacon accelerated the car forward and struck one of the detectives.
Fearing that Chacon had run over an officer, several detectives fired their weapons.
A passenger in Chacon’s car, Shaylee Williamson, 20, of Pocatello was struck by the gun fire. Chacon left her with the car and ran away.
Chacon and Williamson were both apprehended and treated at a local hospital.
Pocatello Police investigated the shooting and sent their report to the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office.
Chacon was charged with four felony counts. He faces charges of grand theft, battery with intent to commit a serious felony, unlawful possession of a weapon, and attempted to flee or allude a police officer. His next court appearance is schedule March 22, 2018. He was being held on $250,000 bond.
