State board approves IF research facilities
UPDATE 3/8/18: The Idaho State Board of Education approved construction of two new research facilities Thursday. Both would be located at the Board’s research campus in Idaho Falls.
The Collaborative Computer Center and a Cybercore Integration Center were authorized by the Idaho Legislature in 2017. The Idaho State Building Authority was cleared to enter into agreements for the financing and development of the facilities.
Once built, the Board will sublease the facilities to Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC (BEA) which is the principal operating contractor at the Idaho National Laboratory. The facillities would provide opportunities for collaboration in research and eduction among higher education institutions and the INL.
“This is a great example of how educators can work with industry for the betterment of our state,” Board Member Emma Atchley said.
The groundbreaking is expected to occur later this spring, and the buildings are expected to be completed by fall 2019.
