Idaho Falls woman turns 104

Not everyone gets to have a century of memories, but one local woman does and a little bit more.

“Marvelous” is the word Helen Rohweder uses to describe how she feels on her 104th birthday.

“I’m very blessed,” Rohweder said. “I’ve got good relatives and very good friends, and I go to church every Sunday. It’s just wonderful.”

Every year, she has children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren from all over- come out to celebrate and have a party.

Though it might be hard to fit 104 candles a birthday cake, her grand kids did her one better. They sent her 104 roses in a bouquet.

“Just to have her in our lives and have her in our kids lives,” Roxane Rohweder-Garza, Helen’s granddaughter, said. “To be this old and to see what she seen in her life versus what I’ve seen in mine and so it really is a special treat.”

Though she may be a newly 1-0-4, that’s not stopping her from living her best life. She likes to go play cards every Monday, and she loves to dance. Helen says that her church is throwing a big party for her this Sunday, where it includes a lot of dancing.

And just because she doesn’t get out as much anymore, she still does her best to get ready every day to look presentable. That includes never missing her hair appointments every Friday.

“I like to get dressed up and I tell my daughter in law, now the day I don’t get care how I look, call my daughter from Seattle. That’s it, I’m done,” joked Rohweder.

The piece of advice she wants to give to everyone, is “just to be happy, take care of yourself and get along with people.”
