Man charged with attempted strangulation

Rexburg Police arrested Matthew David Lacarte, 37, on felony charges of attempted strangulation, domestic assault or battery with a child present, and misdemeanor battery.

Police were called to reports of a domestic argument at 231 South Millhollow at 2:37 a.m. Tuesday.

According to reports, a man was holding a plastic bag over a woman’s face. Police said a child attempted to intervene and Lacarte struck the minor, resulting in the battery charge.

LaCarte was being held on $40,000 bond.
