BLM closes Salmon area road to prevent erosion
Rapid erosion has prompted the Bureau of Land Management’s Salmon Field Office to temporarily close the Discovery Hill Bluffs Road.
Officials said the road would reopen as soon as soil conditions dry out enough to reduce erosion concerns.
Combined with high amounts of precipitation, freeze and thaw conditions have created road conditions susceptible to severe rutting and erosion. The closure is intended to prevent future damage and reduce repair costs.
“We want to make sure we can provide amazing recreational opportunities and that requires us to take active steps if problems with road conditions persist,” said James Townley, BLM outdoor recreation planner.
