Local group giving kids a birthday celebration

Birthdays are important and one local group wants to make sure every kid has a special one. The Facebook group, “Idaho Falls Blessings,” had their first party.

“We’ve invited any child that is unable to have a birthday party at home to join us so we can celebrate their birthday,” says Shalee Claiborne, one of the organizers.

Claiborne says she understands what it’s like to go through tough times.

“I’ve been a single mom and I’ve been in situations where it’s been difficult not knowing how I was going to put food on the table, let alone extras. So to be able to put this together is huge.”

Her daughter says she doesn’t mind sharing her special day.

“I like it because I’m sharing with other people and getting to know them better,” says Sydney Sibbett, who is celebrating her 13th birthday.

Eight kids were celebrated at today’s party. The group says they plan to continue this.
