Flood risk for Eastern Idaho

There is a risk of some potential flooding this week. The National Weather Service sent out its Hydrologic Outlook.

The NWS warned of potential rain and snow in the hydrologic outlook.

“Highlighting the potential for heavy rain on top of snow and warming temperatures which we think will increase snowmelt significantly especially on Thursday with much warmer temperatures moving in,” says Greg Kaiser, a Meteorologist with NWS.

Which increases the chance of flooding.

“Low land flooding, some rises in the local streams and creeks and rivers. The potential for back roads to get water running over them,” says Kaiser.

It could also lead to basement flooding.

“Especially if you’re in some of the mountain valleys and higher elevations you’re going to see quite a bit of snowmelt and the potential for some basement flooding. Clean your drains to allow for the increased runoff in the next couple of days.”

In addition to keeping your drains open, you can create runoff ditches for flowing water and remove snow from around your house foundation.
