Tommy Ahlquist greets students at Madison High School
As the 2018 gubernatorial campaign is underway, one candidate was able to stop by and visit one local East Idaho school today. Dr. Tommy Ahlquist was invited to Madison High School to help get the youth more involved in the political process and the upcoming election. Ahlquist introduced himself and meet with students, where he talked about his life and own experiences growing up. He was able to discuss of his plans, like health care and education. He answered any questions the students might have had about his plans or campaign. At one point, Ahlquist even invited a student on stage to do a “mock” debate. “It was great. I love engaging kids and talking to them, I think it’s fun,” Ahlquist explained. “It’s fun to hear their thoughts and ideas. I think he did a great job. He did a great job of talking about issues that were important to him. I mean it’s pretty hard to come in during an afternoon of lunch and talk politics, so anything to help engage and get people involved.” To wrap it all up, Ahlquist brought someone on stage to help explain to the kids what the mechanics of voting are and how to sign up and do it. Tomorrow, Ahlqusit will join other Republican candidates at the 2018 Gubernatorial Economic Developmental Forum at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center at 1 p.m. We will be broadcasting the forum on our Local News 8 NOW channel 8.4 at 7 p.m.
