Gov. Otter signs Idaho Flood Awareness Week proclamation

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter has signed a proclamation naming this week “Flood Awareness Week” in Idaho.

Each year spring flooding causes significant damage to infrastructure and personal property in the Gem State.

Last year, almost every county in the state was affected by flooding, and already this year, Madison and Clark counties are part of a State disaster declaration for spring flooding.

Here are some flood preparation tips:

Make sure you have a family disaster plan. Make sure your insurance covers flood damage. Avoid areas subject to sudden flooding. Remember, even six inches of fast-moving water can knock you off your feet, and two feet of water can float a car.
