Idaho Falls church puts on Easter play

The Watersprings Church in Idaho Falls is using Easter weekend to tell the story of Jesus in a way to relate to modern times in a play called “Outside Looking In.”

“The play is basically the Easter story,” said Kristine Haas, director of the play. “You know, Jesus’ death and resurrection. But then, we parallel it with a modern day story that goes along with it. So, you can kind of see the relevancy of what happened then to how life is today.”

The church says they’re hoping to reach an audience that may not be comfortable in a church setting. They’re also hoping to spread a message.

“The message behind the play is very simple,” said Ty Orr, pastor of Watersprings Church. “It’s Jesus Christ came, died and rose again. And because of his sacrifice on the cross, we have forgiveness of sin. It is that simple. And also, that anyone who desires to can come to him.”

There’s about 70 cast members with 30 additional helpers behind the scenes. By the end of the weekend, they will have performed seven shows to around 4,000 people.

“We have a lot of laughs, we have a lot of tears, bring your Kleenex if you’re going to come,” Haas said. “Every night people have talked about how touching it was. Life changing really. A lot of people say it has changed their lives.”

If you’d like to go see the play, the church has three more performances. Saturday at 7 pm, Sunday morning at 9:30 and another one at noon. The church is located at 4250 S 25th E in Idaho Falls.
