Congressional candidate stops by Idaho Falls for town hall
Second District Democratic Congressional candidate, Aaron swisher, stopped by Idaho Falls Saturday morning for a town hall with a local group called “Idaho Falls Progressives.” They spent time discussing many issues, including second amendment rights and gun control.
“I want to help bring these people to a, some sort of point, where we can get together on solutions for our gun violence problem,” Swisher said. “Where we can protect second amendment rights but also keep guns out of the hands of people who would use them to harm the public.”
Swisher is running against incumbent Republican Congressman Mike Simpson. When asked why he should be elected over Simpson, Swisher says it all comes down to economics and fiscal issues.
“Congressman Simpson is just wrong on a lot of economic issues,” he said. “And while he talks a good game in terms of balancing the budget and keeping our fiscal house in order if you look at his voting record he’s really been a disaster on those issues adding trillions and trillions of dollars to the deficit and debt.”
Swisher says he doesn’t want to be a career politician. He also says he has the solutions that Washington needs.
“And so I want to go to Washington and clean up some of the mess that the career politicians have made in our nation’s capital,” he said.
Swisher is up against Peter Rickards in the Democratic primary election on May 15th.
