Officials identify Iowa man killed in Wyoming avalanche

UPDATE 4/24/18 8:45 a.m. Officials have released the name of a 24-year-old north-central Iowa man who was killed in a weekend avalanche while snowmobiling in northwestern Wyoming.

Teton County officials say Taylor Bruggeman of Saint Ansgar, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon near Togwotee Pass in the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports Bruggeman was snowmobiling with two friends at the time.

Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Carr says Bruggeman’s riding partners saw him get buried and could see part of his snowmobile, but couldn’t find him.

One of the friends stayed to dig while the other one rode about 30 minutes to where he could get cell service. He called for help shortly after 4 p.m.

UPDATE 10:30 a.m.:
A snowmobiler died near Mt. Leidy Sunday afternoon after getting buried in an avalanche, according to the Teton County Sheriff’s Office.

As of 7 p.m., Teton County Search and Rescue personnel were on scene recovering the body of a 24-year-old Minnesota man.

The team received the call at 4:10 p.m. Sunday when the man’s riding partners saw their friend get buried.

A snowmobiler has died after getting buried in an avalanche in northwest Wyoming.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was a 24-year-old man but has not released his name.

Lt. Matt Carr tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that search and rescue officials were notified at 4:10 p.m. Sunday about the avalanche.

Carr says the man’s riding partners saw their friend get buried. They could see part of his snowmobile but they couldn’t find him.

One of the friends stayed to dig while the other one rode about 30 minutes to where he had cell service and called for help.

Carr says the men weren’t carrying any avalanche gear.
