Premier Technology to create over a hundred new jobs in Eastern Idaho

Business is growing across Eastern Idaho. Premier Technology in Blackfoot is also growing and expanding.

Wednesday, officials broke ground on a $15 million expansion that could create around 100 to 150 jobs.

“We’re getting ready to expand and adding a bunch of high tech processing equipment,” said Doug Sayer, the chief business officer of Premier Technology. “So we’re pretty excited.”

The company will expand about 70,000 sq. ft. to their current facility in Blackfoot. It will include a new state of the art automated metal processing equipment.

“We’re expanding because there is a number of contracts we need to perform,” Sayer said. “Our customers are demanding more from us. “

The company expects to create 100 jobs immediately, and 150 by the end of the year. Which means more growth for the city.

“The more jobs we attract here we do see Premier as being an employment magnet to the area,” said Marc Carroll, the mayor of Blackfoot. “These are extremely well paying jobs.”

Not only in Blackfoot, but for Eastern Idaho too.

“Although we’re in Blackfoot,” Sayer said. “Our community really extends north of Idaho Falls to Pocatello we really consider all of those communities our own.”

Even the state.

“The more manufacturing and adding that we can get and high tech innovation,” said Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter. “That’s just going to add to the economy.”

Governor Otter hopes that this expansion can help play a part in education workforce development piece for the state.

“We need every portal of education to step up to the plate and see what’s going on here and see where it’s going to go in the future,” Otter said.

The groundbreaking also allowed Governor Otter to read and sign his new executive order, “establishing a policy for nuclear energy production and manufacturing in Idaho.”

Construction will begin as soon as possible. The expansion project is part of a multiphase expansion effort.
