Troopers catch drivers violating railroad crossing laws
Idaho State Police and Idaho Operation Lifesaver conducted “Trooper on the train” to catch drivers violating railroad crossing laws Monday.
A trooper rode along on the train to spot any drivers that tried to beat the train and gave a $90 citation to all violators.
ISP reports a couple of railroad crossing violations were seen today from the engine. Both vehicles ran the red lights about 200 feet from the engine.
Train conductors say they see an average of 13 drivers violating the crossing law daily.
“You know that’s there’s a train crew on board that train. And a lot of times they have a front row seat to some very terrible things. We want to remind everybody to turn your head and look before you cross the track,” said Travis D. Campbell, State Coordinator for Idaho Operation Lifesaver.
If you need to stop for a train, stop within 50 feet of the crossing because the train always has the right of way.
